Sapura Energy Berhad (“Sapura Energy” or “the Group”) was awarded Best Pipe Layer Operator for flexible pipe lay works in ultra-deepwater operations and was a joint recipient of the Best Health, Safety and Environment (“HSE”) Management award for excellent performance in HSE at the recent Petrobras (Petróleo Brasileiro S.A.) Best Suppliers Recognition Award 2017.
The awards were received through its joint venture company Sapura Navegação Marítima in Brazil (“SNM”).
Sapura Brazil was one of the 17 suppliers that were selected based on its operational performance, safety record, as well as integrity and compliance assurance practices. Petrobras, which currently works with about 5,500 active vendors, honoured eligible suppliers in 13 categories this year.
Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Shahril Shamsuddin, President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Sapura Energy Berhad, attributed the wins to the team’s outstanding performance, commitment and relentless focus on HSE, technical competence onshore and offshore, and team spirit.
“We are honoured to receive these accolades and are proud of the team’s achievements which reflect their dedication and commitment to safety and operational excellence. Sapura Energy made its mark in the flexible pipe lay sector seven years ago and has been successful in building a strong presence in Brazil. We wish to thank Petrobras for their confidence in our capabilities and are confident that our partnership will bring mutual successes,” he said.
Sapura Energy currently operates six pipe laying support vessels for offshore ultra-deepwater flexible pipe lay work in the pre-salt regions in Brazil. The Group was awarded two long-term major build and operate contracts for six flexible pipe lay vessels spanning 5+5 and 8+8 years from Petrobras in November 2011 and June 2013. The Group’s operations are being executed by SNM, a 50:50 venture with offshore drilling company, Seadrill Ltd. Delivered in stages, the vessels namely Sapura Diamante, Sapura Topázio, Sapura Esmeralda, Sapura Ônix, Sapura Jade, and Sapura Rubi were accepted by Petrobras on schedule.
“The awards are a recognition of the hard work of the Sapura Energy workforce. The group is built by people who understand the importance of and value teamwork, and believe that an incident-free working environment is possible. The team delivers their best, and works responsibly and with integrity at all times,” said Andre Merlino, Chief Executive Officer, Sapura Navegação Marítima, who received the awards on behalf of the Group at the ceremony held in Rio de Janeiro.
Held annually, the Petrobras Best Suppliers Recognition Award seeks to appreciate the commitment of its vendors and recognise their performance in various areas, besides strengthening the commercial and operational partnership between Petrobras and its suppliers.
